Methods for a safer office reopening—
Part 4: bed bugs

This is the final part of a four-part article on reopening the office that has focused on eliminating odors, rodent-borne dangers, and cockroaches. Now let’s address bed bugs. bed bugs prefer to feed on us— and are capable of waiting more than 500 days for a meal. This year of office shut down makes them hungry!

Bed bugs in the office

Many people do not associate bed bugs with offices— they envision these insects infesting someone’s home. Truth is, these biting pests outstayed their welcome after our last Take Your Favorite Bed Bug to Work Day when they hitchhiked on somebody’s clothing, satchel, or purse. bed bugs are just as at home in the office as they are anywhere else. Their only requirements for an infestation are people for a source of food and places to hide.

Most offices supply both of these in spades.

Once an office is infested with bed bugs, they will lie in wait in a chair seam, between couch cushions, or in carpeting. They harbor in desk crevices, behind pictures on walls, and in books. I've seen photos of electrical sockets infested with dozens of bed bugs. These insects bide their time for the opportunity to climb onto somebody else’s clothes or bags, then tag along with them to their residence... then feed and continue the cycle!

Brittany Campbell, Ph.D., entomologist for the NPMA relates that the dearth of people to feed on has changed the behaviors of the current bed bug population:

Bed bugs can survive several months without a blood meal and with many [buildings] experiencing low occupancy over the last few months, bed bugs will be hungry and may actually come out in broad daylight to feed— a dramatic shift in behavior for a pest that is notorious for feeding at night.

Hungry and emboldened bed bugs will take every opportunity to find a new host.

There is a one-step solution to killing bed bugs with heat while improving indoor air quality and killing all the odor-causing bacteria found within any structure. We’ve been perfecting the techniques and equipment since 1989 and you can get the equipment to make this happen when and where you need to.

That solution is heat.

Heat is thorough and indescriminant

Unlike pesticides or desiccant dusts, heat gets everywhere, and kills all bed bugs and their eggs in just one 1-day heat treatment. There is no waiting for insects to make contact with a chemical and then have time to kill the bug. Heat penetrates every object in the treatment area. Heat gets to all the surfaces and nooks and crannies along the baseboards. Heat penetrates all the upholstered furniture like desk chairs and couches. Once lethal temperatures are reached and maintained for the prescribed time, all the insects and their eggs will be dead. A heat treatment leaves insects no cool place to hide and survive.

The GreenTech Heat methodology and equipment has been proven through thirty years of university laboratory studies and millions of real-world heat treatments. When properly conducted, a heat treatment is 100% lethal to all stages of insect life, 100% of the time. Temperature measurements provides an empirical ensurance that every bed bug in the treatment area was exposed to the proper time at a lethal temperature. No other bed bug treatment methodology can provide this level of surety.

No games or gimmicks. No spray, hope, and pray you got all the bed bugs. GreenTech Heat has a better solution. The same technology that eliminates bed bugs, cockroaches, and odors in the office can be used as a perk to heat treat your employees’ homes in case of an infestation.

GreenTech Heat technology is 100% effective for bed bugs, cockroaches, and all other insects. Heat kills microbes, viruses, and bacteria that can cause allergies and odors. GreenTech Heat equipment allows you to self-treat with heat on your schedule and as your needs demand. Our certified training lets you do it right and do it safely the first time. Heat safely kills insects and microbes everywhere they may be found in a single one-day treatment. Call us at 888-699-3944. We have bed bug heaters for sale to get started with heat today.
